faw vw own brand 300x199 FAW VW to set up its own brand too?In recent months there has been a spate of joint venture companies setting up their own brands with their foreign partners help, now it seems that VW are trying to get into the action.

Nissan came first with their own brand, Qi Chen, in partnership with Dongfeng but then it sparked rumors of Honda planning to do something similar with their partner who also happens to be Dongfeng. GM didn’t want to be left out of this great race and launched its own brand with SAIC and Wuling, the new brand was called Bao Jun and we will see the finished article next week at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

A rendering of FAW-VW’s own future car has been leaked to the internet and seems to show something that is Passat B6 based, further information on the model is not forthcoming from VW, but Chinese automotive outlets are saying that something is certainly in the pipe lines. FAW has set up its own brand, Besturn, which uses Mazda running gear for its two models. Besturn has sold quite well in the Chinese market so far.

He grew up with cars around him, especially as his father was a major auto restorer, Frank's childhood was spent passing beers, tools and coffee to his father whilst he explained the ins and outs of engines. Looks ugly. I don’t believe this is a real SAIC-VW rendering. If you’re going to launch a brand together with a Western partner in China, design is everything. If it looks too ‘Chinese’ (no offence), the Western partner loses credibility in it home-market. So they won’t allow it.

Look at Bao Jun. It looks great! If anything, SAIC-VW will try to compete directly with this brand.
