BYD’s sales fall short of target – again
At the end of 2009, a victorious and boastful BYD announced that they would be able to clear sales of 800,000 vehicles in China for 2010, by the middle of the year the goal was looking extremely far away with only 230,000 sales gained by June, BYD lowered it to a more attainable 600,000 vehicles except BYD have missed this goal too.
By the end of December 2010 BYD had sold 519,806 vehicles, some 79,000 short of its 600,000 units goal and well over 200,000 units short of its original 800,000 sales goal. 2010 has not been a smooth year for BYD, they had factory land issues which saw the government confiscate BYD factories and land in BYD’s original home base of Xi’an.
BYD’s Sales GM, Mr. Xia Zhi Bing announced that he will apologise four times to BYD’s car dealers due to BYD’s poor performance in certain areas, several BYD dealerships in the South West of China have pulled out of the network citing that their were too many problems with BYD and too little profit to be made.
Perhaps BYD really should back away from the world’s biggest car company dream.

BYD’s lofty 2010 goals = EPIC FAIL
Did BYD (the Chinese electric car company backed by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway)actually come up with anything worth shouting about in 2010? 500,000 vehicles is still a lot but without some major innovations it is unlikely to be so high next year unless the 2nd-3rd tier cities really want a BYD instead of one of the many options in the sub 10 wan category available now.
What exactly do their 30,000 engineers do each day? Sit around reading chinacatimes and going “wow” and “look at that” when seeing what the local competition is up to and which they are apparently unable to do themselves? My guess is they sit on their a$$es watching TV on youku and perving at the girls in the factory.
Nice guessing pijiu, I have been around Guangdong province in these days lately and I found out that electric motor cycles are very popular in southern China. Some even use them as cheap taxi for the “ladies” (working ladies in night lifes). Very environmental friendly, no pollution to the atmosphere….. You better have more beers in those night clubs.
It’s pretty common to see electric bike taxi’s around the entrances to metro stops in GZ in certain places where the fuzz leaves them alone. Technically electric bikes are illegal here though but like everything its only illegal if the cops catch you…. that or they give a stuff which they usually don’t. I’m pretty sure there is no such thing as a proper cop here.
Well that’s 71,000 more than last year and last year was a hell of a year!
