It’s official, China sells 18.06 million cars in 2010
China is now the biggest car market in the world by a long shot with US car sales around the 10 million units marker. China’s auto sales climbed by 32.37% in 2010 over the previous year according to final statistics released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM)
Car production reached 18.26 million in 2010 which was an increase of 32.44 percent, December sales figures reached 1.67 million units which was an increase of 17.9% over 2010′s figures but a decrease over November 2010′s figures by 1.79% which seemed to be a surprise as the end of low duty on sub 1.6L cars came to an end on December 31st, a mass rush of car buying at the years end was expected.
Over capacity seems to remain a problem with production at 1.87 million units in December or an increase of 6.27% over November’s production figures.
Sales of passenger vehicles rose 33.17 percent year on year to 13.76 million last year, while sales of commercial vehicles were up 29.9 percent year on year to 4.3 million.

I think the overcapacity will push Chinese car manufacturers to sell the “surplus” cars in other markets.
That could be a good thing in the long run.
