VW Amarok sighted in China
Volkswagen’s Amarok pick up truck has been sighted out in China sparking rumors of its imminent launch in the Peoples Republic of China.
The Chinese pick up truck scene is mostly controlled by domestic manufacturers such as Greatwall, Huang Hai and ZX Auto, all of whom control the low end of the market for trucks that are priced between 60,000rmb and 100,000rmb. Many truck buyers are companies rather than personal users as pick ups are considered ‘working vehicles’ and are banned from many city centers during daytime periods, hence small and large MPV’s have filled the slot that trucks had taken in Western markets. Although prices maybe low, Geely and Chery plan to launch higher end trucks in the next year or two, so VW maybe thinking along the same lines and could be readying the Amarok for Chinese distribution or maybe later as a domestically produced vehicle.
