Luxgen SUV spotted in China yet again
Luxgen is a sub-brand of Taiwanese car maker Yulong, Yulong recently signed a joint venture deal with mainland company Dongfeng to set up a production facility to produce Luxgen vehicles in the Chinese market, the first vehicle to be produced will be the Luxgen SUV. This SUV has been spotted out testing yet again in China and rumors of its March 2011 launch are already circulating:
The SUV is aimed squarely at the high end market, although its difficult to see how the car will be priced in China as it is not technically a joint venture company (as both companies are Chinese) and its not technically a self developed vehicle, so it might be a competitor to Kia and Hyundai’s models.
This car is essentially Taiwan’s automotive ambassador to the world and will be show casing Taiwan’s transformation from a producer of cheap products to a high end electronics manufacturer. The Luxgen will have a 3.5G internet connection linked to a 10.2 inch GPS screen on which drivers will get night vision driving help in high definition, cameras will be placed on the wing mirrors and will alert the driver when other vehicles enter the drivers blind spot, in total the car comes with 8 external cameras to give the driver a 360 degree view of what is happening all around the vehicle.
On the power front the Luxgen SUV is powered by a 2.2T inline four engine with a max power of 128Kw at 5200rpm and produces 275Nm of torque between 2500rpm and 4000rpm. Pricing is still unannounced, but in Taiwan the car retails for between 180,000rmb and 250,000rmb, so perhaps once mainland China production begins pricing will continue in a similar range.
