Beijing January 2011 sales down by 89%

In late December 2010 Beijing Muncipal government enacted a new policy that would see car sales restricted to just 240,000 new cars per year as they limited the number of new license plates being issued to just 20,000 per month. January sales for 2011 have just been released and indicate that sales in the Beijing area have fallen by 89% over January 2010 which shows that the harsh new policy is having a strong effect on the market.

According to one source, the biggest source of sales for Beijing car dealerships right now are non-Beijing residents coming into the city to buy cars at discounted prices so they may register them in their own locality.

The top selling cars in Beijing during January 2010 were the Subaru Forrester, BYD F3, FAW-VW Bora, FAW-Audi A6L, Shanghai-VW Sagitar.

Very interesting that the Subaru Forester made the list of top selling cars.

I guess I should start checking for good deals.
