The Emgrand EC8 has only just been launched in 2.0L and 2.4L specification but Geely are planning to kill off the Mitsubishi engines used in the EC8 in favor of something from their own line up. Mitsubishi has long provided engines to Chinese auto makers that lacked their own self developed engines, although many Chinese companies have successfully developed their own engine line up in the past couple of years.

At the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show Geely aired its self developed 2.4Lengine, codenamed JLδ-4G24, which produces 162bhp and 225Nm of torque. Whilst obviously low in the BHP department, the self developed engine is producing a good amount of torque for an engine of its size.
