FAW-VW to produce B7 Passat in stretched form
At first it was thought that Shanghai Volkswagen would be receiving the new B7 Passat, but it seems that honor is going to First Automobile Works (FAW) who also have a partnership with VW. Although the car has only just been released in the USA, it seems that the car has been in some sort of production or testing phase within China for quite some time. Obviously China is now one of the largest markets in the world for mid size sedans, so it comes as of no surprise to learn that the B7 Passat will be produced in China with a stretched wheelbase to suit business users that are used to being chauffeured around town.
The B7 is likely to launch at teh Shanghai Auto Show and will come with the usual 1.8TSI and 2.0TSI engines with DSG gearboxes, interestingly it is rumored that the B6 Passat will continue to be made and sold by FAW-VW alongside the B7. It’s unclear what Shanghai-VW will be producing, or if it will continue to update the B5 Passat which it has built for several years.

Aren’t Shanghai VW meant to be working on the NMS?
The combination of the long Passat and engines not taken from the US car museum (they call it “road”) might be, what needs some testing here.
They already registered the car as SVW71410 (96 kW)/ SVW71411 (63 kW)/ SVW71810/ SVW72010.
So I can’t believe this.
See http://www.chinacar.com.cn/jiaoche/dazhongqiche_3465/SVW71410AR_130220.html etc.
Eric,
I have these no’s for this model – FVL714TFATG, FV7187TFATG, FV7207TFATG so a 1.4TSI, a 1.8TSI and 2.0TSI, FV = FAW VW
Ash,
the series you give is MAGOTAN, length 4765 mm, wheelbase 2709 mm. The SVW NMS is long 4870 mm, wheelbase 2803 mm.
So I stay to my point. greetings, Erik.
