What’s in store for BYD at the Shanghai Auto Show?
BYD are in a state, the massive growth that they saw in 2008 and 2009 quickly turned into massive problems for them in 2010. They expanded their dealership network too fast and put too much pressure on the dealers to make sales, plus they set up different dealership networks meaning that some dealers were stuck with lemons whilst other dealers were doing rapid business. However, to pull back from the brink in 2011 and 2012 BYD are readying some serious technology to get consumers back on board.
Electric and hybrid cars are tomorrows products, but in the meantime consumers are looking for power and high technology, BYD have finally realized this and are planning to introduce a new range of engines, one of which will be a 1.5T engine and also a new dual clutch gearbox, and direct injection engines. The small company had a lot of growing upto do in 2010, but in the early months of 2011 it appears that BYD are on the right track.
The first car to benefit from the turbo powered engine will be the BYD G6, which is essentially an upmarket version of their best selling BYD F3 model (which still tops the sales charts!). BYD’s big launch at the Shanghai Auto Show will be the BYD S6 SUV, which will be packing a 2.0L and a 2.4L engine.
