Audi Q3 Confirmed for Shanghai Auto Show
Earlier this week the Western automotive press went crazy for the new Audi Q3 SUV, being a Chinese car focused blog this kind of slipped off radar, our bad. The market for luxury crossovers has boomed in China, Audi were the first to introduce the Q5 as a locally produced vehicle into China with their partners in Changchun, Mercedes are also planning to introduce the GLK as a locally produced vehicle but powered by a 1.8T engine rather than the V6 it is accustomed to, BMW are also planning to introduce the X1 to local production with a 2.0T engine, and rumor has it that the X3 is also coming our way as well. The Audi Q3 will be riding on top of the VW Tiguan platform that is already produced via Shanghai-VW, although the platform has been changed slightly to accommodate Audi’s Quattro all wheel drive system.
The Q3 is slightly smaller than the Q5, measuring in at 4.38m long, 1.82m wide and 1.6m tall, wheelbase measures in at 2.6m. Pricing in Europe is set to be around 30,000 Euro, so China pricing is probably going to be in either the same area or probably slightly higher – we estimate 300,000rmb to 350,000rmb for the starting price.
