Geely takes the MINI, makes it look better

Emgrand EC6 RV 300x199 Geely takes the MINI, makes it look betterGeely are prepping a new mini car for their upmarket Emgrand range, the car is a new one on us and we had no idea that Geely had small car ambitions for the Emgrand range, however this car does look quite neat even if it does have various MINI attributes to it.

Look out for this at the Shanghai Auto Show next week!

This car is much nicer than the Lifan 320

Oh yeah, it’s got a lot of “Mini” in it – but it’s NOT a clone. I love it – and I love the idea of being able to drive a car that is a close cousin of the Mini (from a looks standpoint) for about 30% of the price of a Mini!! Thank you Emgrand – hope it’s a huge success for you.

The front looks way more like the Kia Soul than a Mini. Kia Soul/Suzuki swift.

    • avatar Bob says:

I agree. It reminds me more of a Kia Soul and Suzuki Swift.

It does take parts of the design from a number of cars, but at least it is not an outright clone.

  4. avatar Patrick says:

Looks like what happens when you mate a MINI with a Porsche Cayenne. But a good question would be whether Geely employs any designers with any actual ideas of their own. Trained monkeys can copy something, real talent creates it own.

    • avatar Ed says:

Nothing is really original these days, all designs are built upon others, or inspired by others, so it’s pretty much impossible to be “original” without being absurd, or creating something outrageous.

  5. avatar Robj says:

Still more clones. Bad ones at that. They need original designs.

  6. avatar TheK says:

Not a Mini clone (German press once again cries this), but also doesn’t look like an Engrand model.

  7. avatar 2o6 says:

Honestly, take away the white roof and the Mini connection is gone.

  8. avatar Head Honcho says:

No one will mistake it for a MINI going down the road. That is where the word “clone” comes in. When you can’t tell if is the real car or not when you see it going down the road. This one isn’t even close.

  9. avatar Christian says:

    Looks minging to me.

  10. avatar TODD says:

As with any Geely that closely resembles a superior car, get it up close and see the difference.
Emgrand brand is….. Tacky. BYD make a better overall car that’s actually robust and the interior doesn’t fall apart after 6 months! And I think they are taking greater steps in answering their buyers requirements.
I’m sorry, but Geely needs to open it’s mind and think of durability and reputation. not something flashy and tacky that’s and fad.
