Buick Regal GS to go on sale soon
The Buick Regal 2.0T set a new precedent for sedan power in China when it launched over 18 months ago, the 2.0T engine was one of the most powerful on the market producing 220bhp. Ford later launched the Mondeo with 240bhp but it appears that Buick are about to retake their crown with the Regal GS. The GS mixes direct injection with turbo charging to gain an impressive 255bhp and 400Nm of torque through the front wheels, the GS will come with a six speed manual gearbox to begin with but a six speed automatic will be launched later on.
Buick are aiming to take a slice out of the performance market in China which has so far been taken by Mercedes and BMW and to a lesser extent by Audi. By offering a powerful car at a competitive price, potential customers for the Bavarian brands might be swayed over to the Buick dealership.
A launch date of August has been set aside for the Regal GS, a price tag hasn’t been announced as of yet but it is expected to be in the 300,000rmb range – somewhat cheaper than the nearest six cylinder offerings from BMW or Mercedes.

Six speed manual is a real rarity in China especially on a car of this size!
Not really a rarity, only base ‘poverty specification’ models have manuals.
Always been a fan of the new regals.
The real hurdle for me would be driving a *BUICK*. It has such a “grandma drives a buick” moniker in my mind.
Don’t worry – you don’t have to tell your friends back home that you’re driving a Buick.
This is actually an imported model and not locally made!
Really? +1 for Regal GS then
Any word on whether the automatic is of the DCT variety?
What I do like about the GS is the more aggressive/sportier styling.
Is it got automatic shifting?
