Volvo S60 1.6T coming to China soon
The Volvo S60 has already been responsible for boosting Volvo’s sales figures in the Chinese market, but Volvo are readying a 1.6T version which should take sales even higher later this year. The current S60 on offer in China is a 2.0T model producing 204bhp, but the smaller 1.6T is no slow poke either, the 1.6T is good for 180bhp and 240Nm of torque.
As the 2.0T variant starts at 280,000rmb its likely that the 1.6T could start at 230,000rmb or higher, which would make the car very attractive to Honda Accord, Toyota Camry or Buick Regal buyers.
Update: Corrected 2.0T correct BHP output – thanks Gerald!

The S60 2.0T does not use the high-output version of the 2.0T – it uses the 203hp version (see http://www.volvocars.com/zh-cn/all-cars/volvo-s60/which/pages/engines.aspx).
I really do wish the S60 2.0T had 240hp, it would be such a 3-series/A4 killer (yes I realize there is the 3.0T, but that is $$).
In anycase, I doubt that they will take the 1.6T as low as 230,000 – my guess is that it will start at 268,000. Geely has stated that they want to take Volvo upmarket and introducing low-cost models is not the right strategy in China. Also, where would that leave the S40?
Incidentally, I’ve already seen a few S60′s on the road here. Mostly in silver, which looked rather plain, but the black one looked really nice. However, I have yet to see one in that bronze/orange (my favourite).
