Chinese made Mercedes GLK to get 3.0L V6 engine
Mercedes are eager to push their brand in 2011 and 2012 to catch up with the runaway train that is Audi, of course the best way to do this is to introduce a new range of made in China vehicles that lower the prices and makes the product open to a wider range of potential consumers. By making cars in China Mercedes will be able to avoid high import taxes which will lower the price for consumers and will also lower car insurance for the end buyer and also the cost of parts will fall as more parts are sourced locally. The GLK has been rumored to be hitting the Chinese market as a locally made vehicle for quite a few years, a 1.8T engine was expected to be paired with the entry level model, whilst the 3.0L V6 will be the top end model.
The Chinese made GLK has some obvious minor changes to the front end for next years model, but overall the car is very similar with its imported brother. Pricing is expected to be from the high 300,000rmb to 450,000rmb areas when the car launches in early 2012.
