Shanghai Volkswagen to intensify its offerings in the next few years

Shanghai Volkswagen plans to launch more than 10 new or revamped VW branded and Skoda branded cars and SUVs during 2013 to 2015. Meanwhile, Volkswagen’s MQB platform will be introduced into China which is the reason for Shanghai Volkswagen’s intensive launch of new models in the next few years.

The capacity of the company’s Yizheng plant will reach 300,000 units by 2013, when Shanghai Volkswagen’s capacity will total 1.3 million units in China alone. At the same time, Shanghai Volkswagen is planning for its 6th plant which is expected to have a capacity of 200,000 cars per year.

The next three years will also see rapid growth of Skoda brand. Skoda brand contributed about 20% of Shanghai Volkswagen’s total sales last year, and the proportion is expected to reach 28-30% in future.
