Toyota’s sales fall in June

Toyota’s Chinese sales fell by 2.4% in June from a year earlier to just over 59,500 vehicles according to media reports, first half year sales were also down by 2.2% to just over 354,400 vehicles.

Toyota’s China sales goal for 2011 still remains at 900,000 vehicles, and with Toyota just over a third of the way there and with six months to go, the Japanese brand may have some trouble in reaching its sales goal.

Sales remain weak due to the devastating earthquake and subsequent Tsunami that rocked Japan in the fist half of the year and resulted in parts being in short supply around the world. Toyota’s factories are expected to be at full capacity once again in the next few weeks and according to Toyota’s top management, the company sees the 900,000 sales figure as entirely achievable. Toyota’s sales total in 2010 was 846,000 vehicles via its two joint venture partnerships with Guangzhou Auto and also First Automobile Works.
