China’s auto market expects positive June growth as Japanese automakers recover
The Chinese market benefited from the recovery of Japanese automakers’ production in the Chinese market in June which was largely accredited with being behind the growth in the market.
Major foreign automakers such as GM, Hyundai, Nissan and PSA all achieved positive growth in June.
Rao Da, secretary general of China Passenger Car Association, told that the sales of passenger vehicles (excluding minivans) in June achieved a year-on-year growth of more than 10% and a positive month-on-month growth. The market shares of JV automakers in June surpassed those in May.
Shanghai GM topped the JV automakers with half-year growth of 27.5%, selling 612,072 vehicles in the first half of this year. Hyundai Kia sold 86,299 locally-made vehicles in June, up 9.1% from a year earlier. Beijing Hyundai contributed 55,136 units, up 1.9% from a year earlier, while Dongfeng Yueda Kia contributed 31,163 units, up 19.8% from a year earlier. Nissan’s June sales hit 108,000 units, up 22.4% from a year earlier.
Toyota’s June sales declined 2.4% from a year earlier to around 59,500 units, compared with a decline of 23.5% in April and drop of 35% in May, and its sales in the first half of this year decreased 2.2% to around 35,544 units. However, the company won’t change its full-year sales target, said a spokesperson of Toyota China.
