Xiali’s five year plan – more cars, not necessarily good ones

Xiali is China’s Skoda, that’s Skoda before VAG group took it under its own group wings. Xia Li’s have so far been Daihatsu and Toyota based cars and generally trade off a good home market in Tianjin and the fact that they make some of the cheapest cars in the market. As the Chinese government is about to lay down its next five year plan, Xia Li has been forced to do the same as state owned company, if the government is ready to dictate where the economy is going in the next half a decade, you better follow it as well. Xia Li announced its plans for the next five years at a press conference earlier today, and it seems that Xia Li are going to focus on giving what they have in the market now a make over and bringing in some new models to fend off of other bargain car manufacturers.

Xia Li does actually make some decent, if not exciting, cars. It’s target consumers are those that wish to drive instead of walking, and if a consumers requirements are so low to begin with, Xia Li does not have a high bar to aim for at all. New models will include crossover vehicles and more small cars.
