One Market – Two Camry’s
China is big on its one country two systems to describe the relationship between Hong Kong and Mainland China, but the a similar ethos is played out in the car market with car companies, particularly foreign car companies, eager to sell multiple generations of cars alongside each other. The most famous must be VW as they practically have every generation of Passat and Jetta in production in China at the moment, Mazda also sell the old Mazda 6 (or Ma Liu as its known here) alongside the new Mazda6 and they are planning to do the same with the Mazda3. Honda are also rumored to be keeping the old Civic on board when the new Civic launches, and Toyota are planning to launch the new Camry whilst the old one stays on field.
The new Camry has been seen plenty of times on other websites so we will not bore you with pictures of it, but news leaked to Chinese auto sites indicates that old Camry and new Camry will share dealership floor space in the future with the older Camry being renamed the ‘Camry Classical’ and the new Camry being just ‘the Camry’
So why have two generation of models on sale? The answer is quite easy, some consumers prefer a cheaper, larger car for a lower price, whilst other consumers have an eye for design and appreciate the aesthetic updates given to newer models, of course these new generations are always more expensive but this does not seem to effect Chinese consumers.
