Want a 5 door Wrangler? Cant afford one? Wait for BAIC’s B70 SUV

BAIC has already shown off its B40 SUV at other auto shows, the 3 door SUV bares more than a striking resemblance to the 3 door Jeep Wrangler, but that maybe a coincidence as Beijing Auto did work with Jeep since 1984, but the leak of these B70 pictures seem to show that BAIC have taken the Wrangler influence a little too far now, and may potentially draw the wrath of their former partners.

The B40 has been rumored to be coming to the market for a long time, except it hasn’t yet launched, the last launch date we heard was November 2010 but that has come and long gone. The B40 was supposed to be carrying a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine which is a world away from the Wranglers lazy V6 that packs out more torque than most other torquey things, the 5 door B70 is likely to carry the same engine, albeit much slower owing to the added weight that a 5 door wheelbase car brings.

Beijing Auto once cloned the Jeep Cherokee, even though they made it themselves but with a Jeep badge. At the time Chrysler was reportedly ‘upset‘ by BAIC’s actions but had no real recourse due to the complexity of the Daimler-Chrysler partnership and Daimler’s partnership with BAIC for the Mercedes line up.
