VW working on developing the thinking man’s MG6
MG have lead the way in many different areas, be it gas based suspension, radical small car designs, two seater sports cars and we can even thank their parent company for bringing us the Rover Streetwise which started the craze of jacking up a hatchbacks suspension, cladding it in black plastic and calling it a crossover vehicle. Where MG leads, others follow, so it comes as no surprise to learn that another company has a fastback design in mind that looks rather like the current MG6, what is surprising is that the company is Shanghai Volkswagen.
Renders of what is being called a Lavida hatchback were posted to various automotive websites earlier today and claimed that the hatch version would launch in early 2012 and would likely be on show at the Guangzhou Auto Show later this year. The Lavida is currently available in China in sedan form only, but if news reports are true then the fastback could be on the market in early 2012. Engines for the Lavida are currently 1.6, 2.0L and 1.4TSI.
