VW Celebrates 20 years with FAW
First Jetta rolls down the line at FAW-VW
Volkswagen and First Automobile Works have officially been married for 20 years today, the two companies came together in 1991 with plans to produce a small car for the Chinese market, who would have thought that the same car would still be in production some 20 years later?
FAW and VW celebrated their 20th anniversary in style with 4,500 guests invited to the birthday bash in Changhchun, over the past two decades the joint venture has created more than 15,000 jobs and has had a profound impact on the surrounding environment in terms of industrialization and wealth creation in what was once traditionally part of China’s rust belt.
Together FAW-VW have three plants in the Chinese market in Changchun, Chengdu and Dalian, work on a fourth plant in Foshan is underway. Currently FAW-VW produce the Audi and selected VW models for the Chinese market, whilst VW’s other partner, Shanghai Auto Industry Corporation, produce another section of the VW range.
