Car and Driver's Render

A few weeks ago Brazil’s Car and Driver magazine threw out a render of what a future JAC mini SUV might look like, it seems there rendering artists were spot on the money when it came to mini SUV design, as they’ve managed to capture pretty much exactly what the SUV looked like ahead of spy shots being made available.

According to media reports JAC are planning to transplant their 1.8L DVVT engine from their mini MPV and install it into the new SUV when it launches early next year.

JAC are likely to be one of the big Chinese car manufacturers of tomorrow owing to their comprehensive line up and easy on the eye designs which are no where near as offensive as their Chinese brethren, JAC have invested heavily in their car making business which started in early 2007 as a means to break away from their core MPV and trucking business which showed signs of floundering several years ago but has since bounced back strongly.

The new SUV is likely to hit the Guangzhou Auto Show in concept form and should be on the market by June 2012.

  1. This car was already exhibited as concept (‘Eagle’) at the Beijing 2005 Show, so I really hope we will see a production version in Guangzhou (after 6 years!)

Word on the street is they’re legally borrowing a Hyundai chassis. Can anybody confirm this?

The JAC Eagle SUV was based on the Hyundai Sante Fe, this is likely based on their own internal design closer to their small MPV.

The Eagle SUV was a weird case, JAC got the tooling for it, but Hawtai got the IPR for it, so they both made Sante-Fe based cars. N.B. This might be the other way around.
