The Cadillac SRX has proven to be a popular model in the Chinese market, so much so that Shanghai GM are readying the model for production in China. Currently the car is imported from the USA which makes it price much higher than it should be due to higher taxes on imported high displacement vehicles. The Chinese media are speculating that the current 3.0L V6 engine maybe dumped in favor of the more powerful locally made 2.0T direct injection model that has already found a home in the Chinese made SLX sedan, the engine produces 270bhp which is more than enough power to propel the SRX.
An eventual launch date has not yet been announced, but the SRX could be a powerful contender to the Chinese made Audi Q5, and soon to be Chinese made Mercedes GLK and BMW X1, especially if pricing is brought under 500,000rmb.
