Guangzhou releases plans to improve traffic conditions in downtown area

The news office of Guangzhou municipal government released Guangzhou City’s Measures to Improve Traffic Conditions in Downtown Area on August 1st. The traffic control plan is aimed to increase the proportion of public transportation to overall motorized transportation to 65%, and ensure the vehicle speed on main roads in downtown area to be no less than 25km/h. The plan covers 30 traffic control measures.

Guangzhou was expected to introduce anti car policies such as those already in place in Beijing and Shanghai, but it appears that Guangzhou are moving towards a smart traffic system to improve the downtown gridlock that kills the city at rush hour.
