Hyundai to launch Sonata 2.0T next year

The Hyundai Sonata was never the top of any drivers new car list when it came to car shopping, it was always the second or third option to the Honda Accord or the Toyota Camry but that seems to have changed in 2011. The new Sonata is a thing of relative beauty when compared to the bland mobiles from Japan, Hyundai have thrown caution to the wind and designed a car that is not only affordable but actually desirable too, furthermore they’ve gone to town on the engines and are planning to introduce the 2.0T into the Chinese market.

GM got the media hot under the collar with its own 2.0T direct injection engine a few months ago, the engine was installed in the Cadillac SLS and will make it into the Chinese Buick Regal GS, but Hyundai have managed to squeeze 274bhp out of their own 2.0T which is remarkable for such a small four cylinder engine. Beijing Hyundai are likely to launch the Sonata 2.0T as an import first but will likely see production in China at a later date.

Couldn’t agree more the new Sonata (i40) is a great looking car. Hyundais for the last few years have been solidly built and reliable but the i40 is at last a car to appeal to emotion as well.
