Peugeot 3008 to be made in China in 2012

The Peugeot 3008 has found itself with limited success in the Chinese market since its launch earlier this year, the 3008 is imported into the Chinese market which has resulted in relatively high prices when compared to other SUV’s on the Chinese market. The 3008 starts at just over 240,000rmb for the base 1.6 turbo model, but China’s favorite SUV the Honda CRV, sells for around 230,000rmb and rising for the AWD 2.4L model – it’s not hard to see why the 3008 is not raking in the sales yet.

The obvious way to boost the 3008 in China would be to make it locally via the Dongfeng-Peugeot joint venture or even the recently inked Chang’an-PSA joint venture. The Dongfeng-Peugeot joint venture is more than likely to see the 3008 rolling down its own production lines in 2012 with the locally made 1.6T being installed in around 2013 according to Chinese auto sources. The 3008 will be coming to the compact SUV market fairly late, and everyone knows that if you’re coming to the party late you better be bringing something good with you.

I sat in this car when it was in concept stage in Paris in 2009 (or 10, I cant remember) I recall a beautifully designed concept with a fantastic dashboard, I really wanted one to replace my car at the time, but now I see them on the roads I am glad I did not invest in a 3008. Awful looking car with terrible dimensions.

    I am a liar – it was 2008.

I saw one on the road 2 days ago. I thought it looked fine but really doesn’t stand out from all the Chinese SUV and MPV about the same size. Took me awhile to realize what it was. I was expecting it to be a Chinese car.
