Sports style in, frumpy business style out

Cars with overly sporty styling are gaining popularity in China’s auto market. Either small cars like Smart, Beetle, and Minicooper or luxury cars like Ferrari and Bentley define their new models as featuring passionate sports style. Such a trend also prevails in the B-class car segment

It’s quite apparent in the newly-launched B-class models in the first half of this year, models such as the New Passat, eighth-generation Sonata, Kia K5, Peugeot 508, Magotan B7 and the new Mondeo are leaving the frumpy business orientated designs behind in favor of more youthful sports minded designs.

Industry analysts believe that the enthusiasm for automakers to launch sports cars is because target consumers are becoming younger and younger. Therefore, it’s foreseeable Volkswagen and GM might adjust their strategies for the segment in the second half of this year, and the other brands will make strong responses to their moves, which will drive the entire B-class car segment into a sports era.

Maybe we’ll finally start seeing some 2-dr / convertible models already available overseas on the mainland.

I would hardly classify the new Passat or Magotan B7 as anything but frumpy business orientated designs. VW excels at producing boring cars.
