Peugeot 308 Sedan has world premier in Chengdu
Peugeot’s China sedan range used to be fairly ugly – we’re being blunt here, but bare with us. The 207 was easily the ugliest looking car in China when it launched, the 307 sedan was no looker either and the hastily cobbled together 408 was a minor improvement but nothing exciting but the 508 was a stunner. The 508′s sleek front coupled with a beautiful rear end spelled a turn around in China Car Time’s eyes for the Chinese market, no longer would they be funny little French cars that seemed to have been seemingly designed by 10 different designers that happened to blind, drunk and not on speaking terms. The new 308 sedan carries on with the 508′s design theme, the rear is sleek and sexy, the front end is low down, slopping and almost ready to hug the floor, overall the 308 is classy looking where the 307 was comical at best.
The 308 will be packing 1.6L and 2.0L naturally aspirated engines with the choice of 4sp auto and 5sp manual gearboxes, whilst the engine and gearbox tech is not exactly cutting edge the 308 will find itself up against competition from the Buick Excelle and also the new Ford Focus when it finally arrives.
Pricing is hard to guess at this stage, but perhaps it will be as low as 90,000rmb for the base model and rise to highs of 140,000rmb for the top model.

It’s less ugly, but it’s still f’ugly.
Most of their cars just seem to be…imbalanced in design. It somehow reminds me of a googley-eyed cartoon face from the side.
The front looks nice, rest, wtf.
“The 508′s sleek front coupled with a beautiful rear end spelled a turn around in China Car Time’s eyes for the Chinese market,”
Well that would be because it was designed as a saloon from the outset rather than something made into a saloon for the Chinese market.
I do like the front of the 508 but the rear looks a bit odd to me.
The best looking Peugeot to my eyes was the 407 coupe.
“The 207 was easily the ugliest looking car in China when it launched”, which was followed up by an even uglier offering, the 207 sedan.
I think the new Nissan Sunny/Versa has taken that award away from the 207 sedan.
