Nissan Murano hits the market in China – 488k or $76,000USD

For those that thought the Murano would hit the market in the middle 350,000rmb segment to fight off against the 3.7L Toyota Highlander, think again. The Murano launched in China yesterday with a price tag to match its high expectations, the sporty looking SUV will come in at a mighty 488,800rmb which roughly works out to $76,000USD at today’s exchange rate. The Murano will be available with a 3.5L V6 only, although when the car is put into production in China early next year that 3.5V6 is likely to have the option of a 2.5V6 as well. Considering the Murano starts at roughly $30,000USD, it seems that Nissan are hoping to make a fair penny on these in China, presuming they move off the dealership forecourts.

The Murano is a great car. My mom bought one when the US economy was down. She got the top model fully loaded for $33,000 was like $7,000 below MSRP. The 3.5 V6 is over kill for China for sure. Gets pretty bad gas mileage too. 16-19 mpg. That is US driving which is open road and lots of freeway. I would guess 14-18 mpg here.

$33k fully loaded is worthwhile, $76k fully loaded…. well, I think I’d be shopping elsewhere.

It is a good car for my mom. Not sure it is something I would buy to drive myself in. I am assuming it is imported at that price. Kind of standard that you can buy two in America for the price of buying one here. Makes me second think any car that cost double here.

Even an X-Trail costs $40,000USD in China – what more can you expect?!

OMG, Nissan must be laughing all the way to the bank. Any time I see one from now on, I’ll be laughing as well – at the driver for being so STUPID to pay $76,000 USD for a Murano! :D

I think the only people laughing are Toyota staff. They already had pretty good sales with the Highlander due to a lack of competition, but now they do have competition its going to be yet another one horse race.

The no of competitors giving the same size vehicle for less is quite amazing really.
