Pug RCZ 300x130 Peugeot RZC arrives in ChinaPeugeot have launched their flagship RCZ sports car in the Chinese market earlier this month, the small two seater sports car is priced in the middle of the range at 328,800rmb to 356,800rmb, priced below it are the Mazda MX5 and Hyundai Coupe 2.0T whilst ahead of it are the R-Line series from VW and also the Audi TT.

The Chinese media are putting the RZC up against the TT in terms of styling, although the RCZ is ‘only’ packing a 1.6T it is still capable of sending 240Nm out of the wheels. A diesel option has not been launched in China, yet. The RCZ is not exactly a cheap car in the Chinese market but it does give Peugeot a model to grab headlines with and consumers into dealerships, even if they do not sell too many. The likelihood of the RCZ seeing local production is quite limited, Peugeot are likely to focus on models that sell in great volumes, all locally made sports cars seem suffer from high prices and low sales.

Interesting, the price is quite a bit lower than what most of us were predicting. Peugeot intends to sell more than just a few of these.

I’m fairly certain that I passed my first one going in the other way today, in Beijing. I say fairly certain as from the front, the RCZ looks nearly identical to the 308 CC. However, the RCZ is noticeably lower.

Who is buying these vehicles? Ive yet to see one. The smart money would go after the Hyundai Coupe, or whatever it is named these days. I bet you could get the V6 Turbo for about the same price as the RCZ.

I thought you disliked them as they eat gearboxes?

Those were the old Rover gear boxes that they ditched at the end of 2004. Speaking of gear boxes do the Suzuki Swifts have any issues? I have to move forward or let the car roll in neutral to get it into reverse pretty often. It is like the gear just doesn’t match up until I get it to roll forward or backwards.

A quick search indicates no. Have your mechanic look at it.

I still want a Suzuki Kizashi.

It is painful going to a dealership where it is very obvious no one there really knows anything about cars. There is relief valve for the radiator and when I bought the car they were all trying to tell me that is where you put oil in. I might need to go to a farther away dealership.
