Chevrolet Malibu to get 1.6T unit in China

The Chevrolet Malibu is shaping up to be an interesting car to say the least, the Malibu was unveiled in China earlier this year at the Shanghai Auto Show for the first time, Shanghai GM are slowly pushing Chevrolet up market in terms of its brand positioning and are aiming at the brand at a more youthful market. Previously Chevrolet was a bargain bin brand and mostly housed Buick’s older models that were badge engineered and subsequently priced cheaper. The Malibu rides on top of the same Epsilon II platform as the Buick Regal and Lacrosse so it should the cars excellent ride quality, the same 1.6T from the Regal is also being transferred over to the Malibu, whilst it sounds like a potentially small engine for a big car its worth remembering that this unit is capable of 186bhp and sending 235Nm of torque to the front wheels, which is more than enough for most users.
