‘Begger Edition’ Audi Q5 seen testing in China

In the UK the lowest model of a car is called the ‘Poverty Specification‘, Chinese media like to refer to them as being ‘Beggar Edition‘ instead, so now we’ve got that slight cultural issue out of the way we can move on to the below Audi Q5 that was spotted out testing in China.

In the Chinese market if a car has a manual gearbox its generally the ‘Beggar Edition’ especially in cars that cost 200,000rmb or more, it seems that nobody in that price category wants to push their own gears, where as in the 100,000rmb and less area stick shift rules the roost. So Chinese media were somewhat surprised to see the above Audi Q5 sporting a manual gearbox instead of the 8 speed dual clutch or the 7 speed automatic gearbox offered in the Chinese market. Up front it doesn’t seem that the Q5 is sporting that many differences to its higher spec’d brothers but the missing HID lamps, missing roof rack and deleted glass roof as well as the tiny wheels give the game away. It was thought for a long time that Audi would introduce a 1.8TSI engine to lower costs, but it seems that a manual 2.0TSI is as low as they want to go for now. Pricing is expected to be around 350,000rmb when launched later this year.

It also appears that the LED tail lights have been dropped.

Are you sure this isn’t another Yema clone??
