Buick Concept SUV to see production in China in March 2012
Although GM is arguably king of the SUV, they haven’t yet put one in to production in China although this will change in 2012 if Chinese media reports are correct. GM currently runs the Buick, Chevrolet, Wuling and Cadillac brands in China but none of these brands have a locally made SUV as of yet, Buick has the American made Enclave, Chevrolet has the Korean made Captiva, Cadillac has the Mexican made SRX and Wuling makes do with nothing. In March 2012 GM are expected to put the Buick Envision Concept SUV into production in China, the Envision concept was a plug in hybrid SUV that first debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year, the 2012 Beijing Auto Show is likely to see the final model before it hits showrooms shortly afterwards.
Chinese media are debating what the Envision will be carrying under the hood when it finally arrives, as VW’s Tiguan SUV has become a big star in China this year Chinese media are expecting that the Buick Envision will come in strong with turbo assisted engines to rival the Tiguan, so its likely that either a 2.0T or a 1.6T will find its way into the new compact Buick crossover.
