This is the MG5 in its rendered glory
The MG5 has been a much talked about car in the Chinese media, we’ve already seen what it looks like in concept form when it stole the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year as it was literally in your face as soon as you entered the door. So why is the media so excited about the 5? The MG5 is the car that the MG6 should have been, you see although the 6 is a good looking motor, its a big car and big cars don’t sell nearly as well as compact hatches. The MG3 has been popular too, but the five is expected to hit a sweet spot in multiple markets. Over in the UK, the MG6 practically relaunched the MG brand and put some new fire in the brand but with punters clearly wanting something smaller and with diesel engines the MG6 has been a damp squib – only 15 cars were sold in October in the UK to date.
Auto.163.com has put its rendering men to work to give us a glimpse of what the MG5 will look like before hit its unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show later this month, these guys have obviously poured over the rash of MG5 spy pictures that have been leaked over the internet recently and put something together that resembles an MG crossed with a BMW 1 series hatch – that’s not a bad thing, in fact the MG5 looks quite fantastic. Here’s hoping the production version looks just as good.
As for engine power, 1.5L, 1.8L and a range topping 1.5T are going to be introduced into the 5, for oil burning fans in the UK/EU two diesel engines are being developed and should be on the market soon.
