Jaguar mixes the old with the new in Guangzhou
Selling a luxury brand in China means selling the history behind the brand and letting the consumer connect with that history, in China it is a harder issue as many, or we should say most, did not grow up watching Porsche’s and Jaguar’s tear up and down the race tracks (or rally roads). So in China you have to invoke the history in an even greater way which is probably why Chinese consumers have so far shunned Lexus, Infiniti and Acura whom have less history, in a bid in favor of old world brands that have great stories behind them. At the GZ Auto Show, Jaguar brought out the new XK-R to wow the crowds along with a classic E-Type to show local buyers how the brand had developed beyond that sports car.
The XKR-S is fresh from the L.A. Auto where the big cat was unveiled, underneath the mean looking vents is a 5.0L V8 engine pushing 550bhp and a 0-100kph time in less than 4 seconds. Pricing? Expect the pricing to be as high as the heavens when announced in early 2012.

They could have found an e-type with a matching painted near -side door! Incredible!
O/S door, its RHD
Hong Kong car
While I *really* like the car in general, and the front end, I think it could do with a little less on the shark gill / intake fin front…..
THe front grill has the same styling as the Hyundai Veloster. That was the worst part about the Hyundai.
There’s always the normal XKR if you don’t like vents.
Fantastic coverage so far! Keep up the work!
<3 vents. Not 8 of them on the snout of the vehicle.
@Honcho: I like the grill itself in this case… it's the craziness of the vents!
The XKR-S was actually shown for the first time at Geneva this year, the Convertible was revealed at LA.
Thanks for the update there Andy. Much appreciated!
