Greatwall’s mid size truck on show in Guangzhou

Greatwall’s heart is in the truck and SUV business, however in recent years they have successfully broken into the all important small car business to satisfy a strong demand for small cars inside and outside of China. Great Wall has made lots of noise about being in certain Western level markets such as South Africa and Australia before a planned entry into mature markets such as the US. Now to enter the US you need a vehicle that people can look up to and think ‘That’s hell of a truck for the money’, hence Great Wall’s development of the Wingle CL. The CL measures in at (LxWxH) 5550 x 1885 x 1845mm which makes it full size in China, but mid size in the North American market where they like their trucks large, although the truck looks the business the disappointment comes from under the engine where a 2.0L turbo diesel engine is found. The oil burning turbo lump is good for 324Nm of torque and 160Kw of power, a regular diesel lump is good for 110kw and 310Nm of torque. The good news is that the CL comes with an automatic gearbox – a first for a Chinese pick up truck.
