MG5 naked and uncovered
When we first posted pictures of the MG5, commenters both here and elsewhere compared the MG5 to Marmite, they either loved it or hated it with very little in between. The 5 will share a platform with the Roewe 350 to keep down costs but will come in hatch form only (although, perhaps a rebadged 350 as a saloon in the future) and will carry the same 1.5L and 1.8L engines with a 1.5T coming somewhere down the line but not at launch time. Gear swapping duties will be handed over to a 4speed auto and 5 speed manuals, although it would be unwise to rule out a dual clutch automatic unit from the 2012 Roewe 550 making it into the MG5 for the 1.8 and 1.5T models
How far are we from a launch date? We think that the 5 might make an appearance at the Beijing Auto Show in 2012, we did expect to see it as a concept again at the Guangzhou Auto Show but the 5 was not to be seen sadly.
