VW to Possibly Establish a Joint Venture Partnership with Great Wall

Chinese automotive outlets are reporting that VW and Great Wall are possibly working on the development of a new joint venture, Auto.163.com are carrying reports that VW have visited Great Wall’s Baoding headquarters on several occasions with a view to setting up a new relationship.

One insider close to the deal was quoted as saying “VW have visited Great Wall several times, but there has been no advancement in talks to date”, in December VW reached out to Great Wall to talk about a potential partnership, rumors are circulating that VW are looking to set up a similar relationship to BYD and Daimler, where the two work together on a new brand.

However, foreign manufacturers are limited to just two partners in the Chinese market, VW has already signed off with Shanghai Auto and also First Automobile Works where both companies work on producing the VW range in China and also their own self developed VW’s such as the new Lavida, and also Bora. Whatever relationship VW will have with Great Wall it is worth watching but it is unlikely to be anything substantial at this stage.
