FAW’s Besturn SUV Sighted Out Testing

besturn SUV FAWs Besturn SUV Sighted Out TestingAt this years Shanghai Auto Show FAW brought out its big gun concept cars one of which was the FAW SUV. On stage the SUV concept appeared to be a mid size offering and is expected to be priced between 140,000rmb and 200,000rmb when finally launched in mid to late 2012.

The Besturn SUV will be the third addition to the Besturn line up, the B70 was the first and came on the top of the last generation of Mazda6, the B50 followed and was also Mazda6 based, however the proposed B30 which was to be mark2 Jetta based has been pushed over to the new Olay brand, the full size B90 is expected to be launched in early 2012. What platform is underneath these new B90 and Besturn SUV models is still a mystery, have FAW used the old Mazda6 platform in yet another car, if so they are clearly getting their monies worth on that platform.

Engines are expected to be 2.0L and 2.4L, the original concept did boast 3.0L V6 but in the real consumer world V6′s are not so popular hence the installation of an inline four cylinder.

In 2012 FAW will update the Besturn range with the introduction of a facelifted B70 and also a new B50, but by 2013 the B70 will be replaced by a new generation, an MPV will also be introduced in the same year. The FAW SUV will likely have its official airing in late 2012 and should be on the market in early 2013.

It’s got the road clearance criterion covered but how much of a real SUV it will be remains to be seen. In any case it’s a major departure from FAW’s old Fudi-based Saibao and Bengneng SUVs.
