Next generation of Jetta to hit the production lines in October 2012

The Jetta as we know it in China, aka the 1982 Mark 2 Jetta, will be seeing the end of its long life in the next few months as the new JettaNF takes the center stage. The Jetta became known as the ultimate work horse as a taxi and fleet vehicle as well as low cost economy vehicle, the Sagitar came later as a compact model to sit under the Passat and Magotan line up where as in the US and EU markets the Jetta nameplate continues.

Now the China market already has compact sedans under the Passat and Magotan models, these are of course the FAW-VW made New Bora and the SH-VW Lavida, so where does the new JettaNF sit? The JNF will likely sit below both models, however it seems that the JettaNF will also receive the same 1.6L and 1.4TSI engines, however the 1.6L for the JettaNF is the all new EA211 engine which is lighter and more efficient than the current 1.6L offered in the VAG range of vehicles. The New Bora was largely developed by FAW in house, however the JettaNF is being jointly developed by VW Germany and FAW-VW under the codename ‘Model A’, however our deep insiders tell us that official documents refer to the new model as the Jetta A2 NF.
