Dongfeng’s first SUV sent to the patent office, and leaked
The patent office in China is a leaky place, this time Dongfeng’s new SUV has been leaked ahead of its official unveiling in 2012. Media pundits are saying that the new SUV is based on the Nissan Qashqai which Nissan could have given to their partner. The rear end and also dashboard do seem to have some similarities to Nissan’s best selling compact SUV, last week Dongfeng launched the A60 sedan which was based on the last generation Bluebird Slyphy sedan that Nissan handed over to Dongfeng.
Criticism of Dongfeng’s car making ventures is already appearing online, many have been quick to say that China’s second car maker (it was split from First Automobile Works and called Second Automobile Works for a time) should be trying harder in its own self developed car brand, Dongfeng took the Citroen ZX and Nissan Bluebird for its first two models, and now it has likely taken the Qashqai platform as well.

It looks quite cool and
This gets a bit confusing because we are used to seeing Dongfeng-badged SUVs, like the Paladin-based Oting, produced by Zhengzhou Nissan. But you seem to be saying that this new SUV, with IPR, will be produced over at Dongfeng’s new independent division. Fengshen is it?
