Facelift Roewe 550 sporting DCT gearbox

January facelift Facelift Roewe 550 sporting DCT gearboxThe Roewe 550 has been the backbone of the Roewe brand since its introduction in 2008, the Roewe 350 has since come in to give the 550 some respite but the two models together seem to be doing quite well in the Chinese market. For 2012 the Roewe 550 is being given a slight make over in terms of its exterior styling but the majority of the changes will be happening on the insider, or rather under the hood. The 2012 550 will come with SAIC’s new dual clutch technology that SAIC developed in partnership with General Motors, furthermore it appears as if the 550 has had its hand brake deleted for 2012 and an electric variant introduced in its place.

Engines will be the same 1.8 and 1.8T units as currently used, although the introduction of the dual clutch could mean a power boost for the engines. Current gearboxes are 5 speed automatic and manuals supplied by Aisin, overseas markets such as the UK have only received a manual version so far as it is believed the automatic is not quite fit for mature automotive markets.

Good news and definitely the way forward! I hope this is as good as the VW DSG ‘box, if it is it’ll make the MG and ROEWE ranges much more competitive than at present

I know Chinese manufactured cars are struggling to compete with imports but the lack of the latest technology engine and transmissions is a major factor in holding them back in the perceived quality and tech race

Please can we have an MG version of this in the UK – oh yes, with a diesel engine…
