1.2 million RMB (or 190,000USD) for Jeep SRT8 in China
The Jeep SRT8 had its official launch in China a few months ago at the Guangzhou Auto Show, but prior to that Chrysler had a few going around the deserts of Xinjiang along with Wranglers on customer test days out in the Gobi and Taklaman deserts, now the SRT8 is officially on the market.
The Grand Jeep Cherokee has been on the market for a number of months already and comes in at just under 540,000rmb for the base 3.6L V6 model ($85,000USD) and rises to a whopping 1.2 million RMB for the top of the line 6.4L V8 HEMI powered SRT8, with 461bhp and 624Nm of Torque on tap, the SRT8 will be ripping up poorly laid Chinese tarmac as soon as consumers get hold of them.
On paper, the SRT8 sounds stupidly expensive compared to its rivals from BMW, Porsche and Mercedes, however it is comparatively cheap, the X6M weighs in at 2.19 million RMB, the X5 just over 2 million RMB, the Benz AMG ML63 at 1.95 million and the Porsche Cayenne turbo at 2.09 million, although its European rivals are slightly more powerful. Will Chinese consumers overlook the Jeep badge for a cheaper and cheerful power wagon? Chrysler seems to think so.

Wow.. isn’t that like, TRIPLE the MSRP of the SRT8 in USA?
I thought most higher end vehicles were double the cost. People can import new vehicles and pay their 100% tax and shipping fees…how can they justify a triple price point?
160% on Ford F150 Raptors – I imagine the tax on this is something similar.
People will pay for it because they can, and because they know no better. I find prices of products aimed at China’s middle class are totally out of proportion to the same products sold in the West, its even worse for luxury products.

Yes, hence the rising popularity of “haitao” (Taobao overseas – ie, buying from Amazon US and getting it sent over via a reshipper).
Of course, you can’t do this with cars!
