Fiat Coming Back To China Slowly But Surely

Fiat C Medium 300x225 Fiat Coming Back To China Slowly But SurelyNot being part of the World’s biggest auto market must be a pain for Fiat, however a late entry does not always nessecerily mean a poor start, in fact the market is now probably more ripe for Fiat’s fashionable car designs and Alfa’s sporty numbers more than ever. If Fiat would have attempted to introduce its funkier models into China in 2008 (presuming the Fiat-Nanjing Auto JV never ended) then Fiat would have likely ended up a loser, the car market in 2012 is a lot different to the car market in 2008, now lifestyle, image, and fashion are among the highest priorities of car buyer, rather than the standard issue bland black sedan car buying that was popular a few years ago.

Fiat are now signed with Guangzhou Auto and are working hard to develop and introduce their range of cars into the Chinese market, although this takes a long time. Fiat are now apparently planning to develop a medium sized car, aka C-medium, for the Chinese market. Fiat have clearly seen the success of the Shanghai-Volkswagen Lavida and also the FAW-VW developed Bora and want to emulate some of this success for their own brand. Chinese media are reporting the new sedan will carry a 1.4T engine and will also make use of Fiat’s dual clutch technology.

Chinese media have already rendered a mock up of what they think the new sedan will look like, apparently this model will hit the market in mid 2013 and should be priced from 90,000rmb and rising.
