Shanghai VW To Build New Factory in Ningbo


Shanghai VW have been on a roll for several years with their hot range of models, it almost appears as if Shanghai-VW cannot build its range of cars fast enough, dealers are boasting of long waiting lists for hot products such as the Lavida compact, new Passat and also the VW Tiguan SUV. To satisfy demand in the Chinese market, Shanghai VW announced plans earlier today to construct a new 300,000 car per year factory in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.

Karl-Thomas Neumann, the head of VW China commented “To meet the demand of our customers more capacity is needed”, the new factory will meet demand in the short term, the new plant will be a complete production facility complete with press shop, body shop, paint shop and an assembly unit, the plant will be finished in early 2014 and will eventually be staffed by several thousand employees. The plant will be Shanghai-VW’s sixth factory in China
