VW Sales Reach New Highs in China


VW branded vehicles were the best selling vehicles in the Chinese market in December, the German based company has gone from strength to strengh over the past 27 years it has been in China, in its 28th year in the market the company has gone from relative small time to being the second biggest manufacturer with it riding on the back of GM.

In 2011 VW sold a staggering 2.26 million vehicles in China with sales being up 17.7%, way above the market average of 2.45%. VW’s own vehicles saw sales of 1.76 million vehicles which was up 1.51% over 2010 and also 61,700 imported vehicles which represented an increase of 13.8%.

Audi saw no signs of slowing at all, the four rings registered sales of 313,000 units which was a massive increase of 37% over 2010′s total sales of 228,000 units which has made China the biggest market for Audi vehicles to date.

Skoda still has the ability to show that despite being a late comer to the market you can rack up sales in China, which should give hope to Subaru and Renault, both of whom still linger on the outskirts of the Chinese auto markets with imported models. Skoda sales hit 210,000 in 2011.

Bentley declared China its second largest market after the company sold 1,780 cars in 2011 in the mainland and Hong Kong, in 2012 Bentley is expected to declare China its largest market, although there are rumors that VW will take over the running of Bentley China from its Hong Kong based partner who currently runs both markets. VW’s other luxury unit, Lamborghini, sold 403 cars in China.
