Cadillac XTS Testing in China
The XTS has already had its North American unveiling, but we can be among the first to unveil it in China. The front wheel and all wheel drive XTS is based on the stretched Epsillon II platform which underpins the strong selling Buick Lacrosse. The XTS is expected to have its official unveiling at the Beijing Auto Show in April as part of an Asia Premiere and will carry a 3.6L engine, it is initially expected that the XTS will be imported into China but thinking heads have already guessed that the XTS will be made in Shanghai-GM and will replace the ancient SLS as Cadillac’s business users car of choice. So who is Cadillac chasing with this car? Chinese media are saying that Cadillac are hoping to steal Audi A6L and Mercedes E-Class drivers over to the Cadillac brand, the “German Three” have more than 75% of the Chinese luxury auto market so it will be a difficult market for Caddy to crack, but not impossible.
The Cadillac SLS was the first four cylinder Caddy to be sold, the SLS carries GM’s direct injection 270bhp turbo engine, the same engine is likely to make it into the XTS when made in China.
