House Rep Visclosky is against Chinese tariffs on US made cars

A US politician from the House of Representatives has come out against Chinese tariffs on American made vehicles as China’s next premier Xi Jin Ping visits Iowa. For those that are not in the loop China slapped down multiple tariffs on US made vehicles earlier this year which made the price of US made vehicles greater than 2.5L displacement shoot up in price. Chinese media believe that the tariffs are in line with WTO legislation, but Visclosky points out that China isn’t playing fair:

“The unfair new duties make American-made cars less marketable in China and increase their sale price by up to an additional 34.4 percent,” according to a statement released by Visclosky’s office on Tuesday. “Existing taxes and duties can already add up to 25 percent to the cost of American-made vehicles.”

Visclosky has a strong point, although his figures maybe off a little China has placed heavy taxes on American cars, but of course as sovereign country it has every right to. The tariffs seemed to come in just as China complained about America’s poultry exports. Are we gearing up for tit for tat taxes? It seems that way, the Chinese car market is a strong current that has attracted many overseas manufacturers, access to the market maybe switched on or off as politicians see fit. Xi Jin Ping will take the reigns as China’s next Chairman in the autumn of this year, his meetings this week in Washington DC, Iowa, and LA will put him in front of Barack Obama and other high level members of government where trade issues are likely to be high on the agenda.

Xi Jin Ping is an awesome name for a president.

Western media reports keep saying “Xi says” but they say it like “Xi, actually he, says” due to how it sounds.

Cantonese….well, you pronounce his name in a way that sounds like “杂种” in Mandarin, “za zhong”, and they say when he takes office Cantonese news will be banned from Mainland TV forever as a result :D

China needs the USA as an export market, where huge amounts of Chinese goods are sold. If they want us to keep buying they better lay off increasing tariffs.
