Baojun 630 hatchback road testing in the wild

baojun 630 hatchback 300x148 Baojun 630 hatchback road testing in the wild  The Baojun 630 has so far been one of the better selling sub brand vehicles in the Chinese market, sales in January reached 9006 units whilst December 2011 sales were at 8019 units – showing that the car does have some strong potential, over the same period Guangzhou-Honda’s sub brand, Li Nian, sold just 3471 units in December and 1623 units in January which translates into a 56% fall. Going forward it looks like Baojun will be sprouting a new hatchback model to follow up on the success of the 630 sedan. The 630 hatchback is likely to make an apparence at the Beijing Auto Show in April and will carry the same 1.5L 110bhp engine as its sedan brother and will likely be in the same 60,000rmb – 70,000rmb as its notchback sibling.

I just saw the 630 for the first time recently on the streets here in Nanning……..bigger than I thought it would be and DEFINITELY better looking in real life than in pics. It has a classy look, and it does not appear “cheap” at all. It’s about the same size as a Honda City or VW Bora, but is priced MUCH less than either of them. It’s primary competitor is probably the Brilliance FSV, and the 630 is MUCH more attractive IMO. If the 630 hatchback can equal the attractiveness and workmanship of the sedan, it will give the FRV (it’s likely target competitor) a SERIOUS challenge for sales dominance. So what if Baojun is using “mature” GM technology……it also happens to be technology that is PROVEN and RELIABLE – and VERY competitive when it comes to price.

  2. I don’t think you can road test this thing in the wild. To me it looks as a partly wooden mockup, made to get an idea how a hatchback would look like.
